Bangkok & Singapore: 4 Days & 3 Nights

Eastern Oriental ExpressDay 1 - Bangkok
The Eastern & Oriental Express departs Bangkok in the early evening. Dinner is served as the train travels from city into the countryside with its rice-fields, villages and water buffalo. Retire to your cabin, transformed into a cosy bedroom by your steward.


Day 2 - Wang Po & River Kwai
Awake early in order not to miss the excitement of the train making its way from Wang Po along the wooden trestle viaduct beside a towering cliff.


Day 3 - Penang
After brunch the train arrives into Butterworth. Here coaches take you across to colonial Georgetown, capital of Penang, on the local ferry.

Take the short ride back to Butterworth and rejoin the Eastern & Oriental Express. Dine again in one of the opulent dining cars and then spend a relaxing evening in the Bar Car with its resident pianist. Spend your last night on board.


Day 4 - Singapore
After breakfast, soon it’s time to leave the train, having crossed the Straits of Johor into Singapore.

 

 


Bagan - Mandalay: 5 Days & 4 Nights

Boat Saturday: Fly from Yangon to Bagan to join Road to Mandalay. After lunch a sightseeing tour is arranged of this great religious site of more than 2,000 ancient temples. Return to the ship for dinner and local entertainment on board.

Sunday: Mid-morning set sail for Mandalay. Enjoy a leisurely day drifting past riverside villages and watching many activities taking place along the the water's edge. Learn about Burma during an on board lecture before a casual cocktail party and dinner.

Monday: The ship will dock at Shwe Kyet Yet near Mandalay early in the afternoon for a tour of the city. Visit ancient sites including Kuthodaw temple. Return to the ship for dinner and local entertainment on board.

Tuesday: Visit Mingun. Return by local boat for a late lunch. In the afternoon visit the Sagaing Hills. A final farewell dinner is arranged in the evening.

Wednesday: Return flight to Yangon.

 


Singapore - Bangkok: 3 Days & 2 Nights

Eastern & Oriental interior

Day 1 - Singapore
The Eastern & Oriental Express departs Singapore’s Keppel Road station in the morning. Lunch is served in one of the opulent dining cars.During the evening, the E&O pauses at Kuala Lumpur’s magnificent Moorish-style station where you may disembark for a stroll.

Day 2 - Penang
Breakfast is taken in your cabin before arriving in Butterworth. Here coaches take you across to colonial Georgetown, capital of Penang, on the local ferry. Enjoy a guided introductory tour with pre-World War II mosques, elaborately-roofed temples, churches, bazaars and colourful shophouses. Reboard the waiting coaches for the short ferry ride back to Butterworth and the Eastern & Oriental Express for lunch.

Day 3 - River Kwai & Bangkok
After breakfast E&O arrives at the River Kwai Bridge station where the train stops to allow you to disembark. Guides escort you on the short walk down to the jetty to board a local craft for a cruise along the lush greenery of the picturesque Kwai Yai river, passing under the Bridge. On board, a local historian provides a brief overview of the history of the Thailand-Burma railway and the bridge. At the E&O landing point board a motor coach for a brief trip past the North Temple and Chinese Cemetery to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre. As you explore the informative museum, the historian is available to answer questions.

Rejoin the coach for the transfer to Kanchanaburi railway station from where your E&O journey continues with lunch. Arrive into Bangkok in the afternoon.

 

 


Chiang Mai-Bangkok-Singapore: 8 Days & 7 Nights

Two nights accommodation at the Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok in a standard room and transfers both to and from the hotel are included for guests booking a State Compartment.

Wednesday - Chiang Mai
Board the Eastern & Oriental Express for an afternoon departure.  Overnight onboard the train.


Thursday - Sawankhaloke & Lampang
Breakfast in your cabin before the train arrives at Sawankhaloke.  Explore the impressive 13th century Bhuddhist temples. Return to the train at Sila At for lunch while you continue your journey through Thailand. Mid afternoon disembark at Lampang for a horse-drawn carriage ride to Baan Sao Nok “the house of many pillars”. Enjoy tea as you tour the house which is built in traditional Lanna Thai style and supported on 116 teak pillars. Return to the E&O to prepare for dinner on board and overnight.


Friday - Bangkok
Arrive in Bangkok after breakfast where you disembark. Transfer to your chosen hotel for a two nights stay. Hotel accomodation is not included in this itinerary unless you take advantage of our Special Offer (details above).


Saturday - Bangkok
Enjoy the day at your leisure.


Sunday - Bangkok

After breakfast, served in the comfort of your cabin, the train arrives into Butterworth. Here coaches take you across to Georgetown, capital of Penang, on the local ferry. First stop is the Kho Kongsi clan house for a tour of the main hall and temple built in the baroque style of the late Ch’ng dynasty. This is followed by a trishaw ride through the interesting districts, passing colourful shophouses, elaborately-roofed temples, famous colonial landmarks and churches before stopping at the charming “E&O Hotel” for a refreshing drink in Farquhar's Bar. Take the short ferry ride back to Butterworth and rejoin the Eastern & Oriental Express. Spend the afternoon watching the passing scenery from one of the lounge cars or from the open deck of the Observation Car.


Wednesday - Singapore
All too soon after breakfast it’s time to leave the train, having crossed into Singapore via the causeway of the Straits of Johor.
