Amakhala Game Reserve

Elephant near Jeep

The Amakhala Game Reserve began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture. Today, six independently owned lodges of The Heritage Collection, are all TGCSA Star Lodge accredited. The lodges offer various styles of accommodation, which include two gracious colonial homesteads, two classic bush lodges, an historic inn and a Settler farmhouse.

Amakhala Game Reserve is a unique conservation initiative that allows animals to be re-introduced to the area where they once roamed freely and so making a contribution to the conservation of its natural heritage. The land used to ranch sheep and cattle up to the turn of the century.

Guests are accommodated in six comfortably appointed stone-and-thatch sleeping lodges, each with air conditioning and en-suite bathroom.

The Safari Lodge: is tucked away in a valley of indigenous bush at the northern boundry of the 7200 hectare Amakhala Game Reserve. This intimate thatched lodge with its unique air conditioned safari huts and signature stone capped roof tops, offers all the comforts of a luxury lodge. Canvas drop blinds open up the safari huts and lounge areas to views of the waterhole where monkeys come to play and antelope and zebra to quench their thirst.

Each suite has a secluded private viewing deck with intimate plunge pool. Within the spacious interior hot and cold air-conditioning, an atmospheric fireplace, large oval bath and romantic alfresco double showers make this the perfect bush retreat.

Leeuwenbosch: consists of 9 graciously decorated en-suite rooms, four luxury suites and five double rooms. It is set amidst beautiful indigenous gardens and is an ideal environment to reflect on the wonderful wildlife experience.
